Overall a good place to work

Pros

Small company willing to take chances on new ideas, very good pay for media, family owned. Promotes those who deserve to be promoted.

Cons

High deductible health plan with little prescription benefits. This happened a few years ago and is a big con. Very old school in some ways. Little flexibility to work from home or flex time. No room for advancement unless someone leaves.

A family owned company that treats you like family

Pros

Great benefits, profit sharing, very loyal to employees, very few layoffs in an industry that is shedding employees to benefit the bottom line. Takes journalism seriously and does so with integrity and the highest ethical standards. Best company I've ever worked for. The Crain family cares for their employees as much as the company.

Cons

Updating older technology infrastructure. Improving "silos" between publications (very typically for multi-publication media companies)

Pros

Very professional company, a bit corporate in approach. high standards of integrity, ethics in journalism, solid brand equity good benefits

Cons

some brands adapting to today's media landscape/some not some brands moving much faster than others towards a modern approach to editorial/advertising. old church vs state attitude is quite fixed and is very challenging to navigate/ if not addressed can be impediment to growth
