      Good company that has lost its way a bit

      Pros

      Very loyal employer with good benefits (now being reduced, however) and challenging work.Some publications have better outlooks than others.

      Cons

      Like most places in publishing today, management is having difficulty finding a way to make money online..Middle managers are under a lot of pressure to show results, and some treat their reports badly as a result. Investments up to now have not been to make editorial better.

      Pros

      A bunch of really smart people working with a common goal and clear leadership.

      Cons

      The business continues to transition with print/digital but great opportunity in that for those willing to have a foothold in both.

      Pros

      I have only been at Crain for a year, but it is a friendly place to work. Co-workers are helpful and willing to assist. Management has increased communication by conducting town halls to share business information and provide a roadmap of future initiatives.

      Cons

      In some areas there is a prevalent "We've tried that idea before" theme. Just because something didn't work in the past doesn't mean it may be time to try it again. No formal performance management program.
