Pros

The product, currency paper and actual currency, is cool. The technology is impressive.

Cons

The transition to the new public company, Crane Co. has been a struggle. Crane Currency had been a private company for nearly 200 years; to go to the public model means much more accounting and some other focus is lost (operations, quality, safety). The overall and operations leadership in Dalton is weak. This has been going on for 6-9 months and supposedly changes are in the making; but the effects of this are wearing thin and some up and coming engineers and managers are leaving as a result. Benefits have taken a hit after the acquisition, including salaries.

Pros

- Very good compensation - Very good benefits - Large amount of down/relaxing time (even allowed to sleep on night shift) - Plenty of opportunities career advancement - Loyal and supportive of its employees and community - Plenty of opportunities for over time - Mostly friendly co-workers and management (from entry level to CEO) - Provided payment for training for any required licensing - Comfortably furnished and air conditioned break room - On site food/snack and drinks are available - Ample safety, company policy, and performance meetings - Multiple locations that allow for international travel - The only provider of paper used for the United States' currency. Which provides strong job security, as long as Crane can maintain their customers

Cons

- Some racially insensitive co- workers and outside contractors. There were two baffling displays of unprofessional and insulting racial insensitivity, one in front of management and all of the employees by a outside contractor hired to train the staff regarding safety, and the other was by a long time Crane Currency employee in front of a group of employees. On both occasions, there were no disciplinary actions taken. - Unsafe work environment, poor air quality, a lot of fork lift traffic with blind turns in areas that have spontaneous foot traffic, cockroaches and mice in same area allotted to employees to eat and rest, the mill was dilapidated and falling into the neighboring river, the floor is very old and weakened in many areas that we were required to operate fork lifts - Poor training provided by co-workers that barely covers your jobs requirements and duties. Supplemented by a trivial computer application that most of the employees google the answers to, that usually covers safety protocols - Management is too detached from the day to day work environment, and openly play favorites. Allowing the favorites to alter their own work schedule, affecting other employees schedules, and even permitting some to work together; in direct violation of company policy - Over working employees to keep up with customer demand, some employees drive over a hour to work, but are pressured to do double shifts. Preventing them from getting adequate sleep, and putting them at risk. - Sporadic work schedule, involving a swing shift - Some employees are constantly starting verbal altercations

Pros

Recently acquired by Crane CO. Was looking forward to positive changes under new ownership which hasn't occurred yet.

Cons

Benefits are terrible. No profit sharing, no 401k match and health insurance is extremely expensive. Managers are only concerned about getting results and do not care about their people. If anything things have gotten much worst with the new ownership. This company needs a union!
