Politics hell

Pros

It was a promising company, the employees were valued. So a long time ago there were quite a few pros but now hardly any. Probably the salary is decent and the benefits were comparable.

Cons

The company is full of politics and inequality. A few old employees enjoy a lot and others sweat it out. One such member is totally insensitive and openly shows how they can slack off while expecting others to work hard for him. Someone who is ok with it will be fine. There are managers who create inequality openly, they speak about junior or under performing members in front of the smaller team in his/her absence and make it seem funny. While one person is made to look a hero, some others are made to look useless until you change your ways. The one-one meetings are usually meaningless as nothing comes out of it. The mid-level management is not doing any good to the company. I've had someone totally outside the team, tell me my personal stuff which I shared with my manager, it completely took me by surprise. There are a few good ones, which I hope the company can recognize and nurture and take back all the power given to a few greedy ones mentioned above. Some people are so fond of free alcohol, they get really drunk and drive home which is dangerous.

Pros

Wonderful people work at CK, with exception of management. Since the growth, people are not treated fairly. Favoritism is overwhelming.

Cons

Lying. Lack of transparency. Favoritism. Relocated to other other (crappy) office without notification. No longer a start up. Values gone.

Pros

- Snacks - Nice office - Fully stocked bar - Great events Credit Karma was a fun place for everything except work. And work occasionally was pretty fun too.

Cons

- Politics - Bad leaders The below are my individual experiences working on an engineering team. I never had input into team’s priorities There was poorly suited code being copy and pasted left and right, and colleagues who cannot get code to compile despite years working in the language Aggressive, unclear OKR’s All code subject to a company wide code review panel Engineering design decisions were lead by consensus and emotion, with a strong resistance to change. Asking for details or demonstrating edge cases lead to anger, not analysis. A projects value was seemingly measured in the number of meetings it caused Agile process was cargo culted without understanding of value or any iteration on it. Note to reader: If you are an IC who wants to be challenged daily, takes a lot of initiative, and wants to make a big impact, this probably isn’t the place for you. Secondarily, coaching I have been privy to is downright incorrect and manipulative, unless you get really lucky with the right team.
