Pros
Crown is a large company it's very different depending on which office you work at. I worked at the Auckland Crown RTC office. It used to be called INRO before being bought out by Crown. There aren't too many pros that stood out working here. It's a very standard corporate desk job. A good summary of working here is just their brand color - Beige. Not terrible, but mostly uninspiring corporate slog.
Cons
For me, Crown RTC was a weird place to work at. It has terrible company culture. They try really hard to be hip and cool like a modern tech company but behind the facade is a backward 1980s corporate culture with fixed office hours. Most of the staff there are OK but there are a few very weird characters to put it nicely. It almost feels a bit cliquey trying to get on these people's good side so they don't use their position of power to screw you behind your back. There is the illusion of career progression in the form of engineering and management levels. But it doesn't mean anything, you get promoted and you still work on the same stuff. Because they only have in house projects so you don't get to work on or learn anything new. Their compensation is well below average. So I found it surprising there were quite a few old timers who have worked there for so long. They also like to hire grads out of uni, which I think helps with retention since it's harder for grads to jump ship with so little experience. Grads also tend to be less picky with company culture. But generally, I see younger staff with ambitions tend to not stay long. There are many more far better places to work at for techies.
