Pros

It's a union job. You won't get fired unless you do something really stupid, like stealing from them.

Cons

This is by far the worst place I have been a cashier for. First of all, there is no opportunity for full time unless you are a manager. Secondly, unless you work overnights, you will not get a chance to take a breather or use the restroom during your shift. It's a very busy store to work in with customers constantly coming through your lane. Expect back and knee pain if you are old or out of shape. Every employee there is constantly exhausted, and the break room is often completely silent despite being full of people. The regular customers there are also just plain rude compared to other stores I've worked in--they will try to haggle over prices with a huge line behind them and then make you put the item back if they don't get their way. This isn't one person, this is upwards of ten regular customers who do this every time they come in. If you are qualified to cashier here, then you are qualified to cashier in a far better environment, such as Lunds & Bryerly's. Do not work here unless you have no other option.

Pros

Fast-paced environment, flexible hours. Friendly crew members. Employee discount on some brands. I'd list more but there isn't much else.

Cons

You cannot get full time unless you're a manager, yet you can get scheduled 12 days in a row and still be "part time." A lot of shifts where you close the night before and open the next morning with 8 hours in between. Stagnant job opportunities. Low ceiling on pay. Rampant favoritism. And hard work goes unnoticed, expect to be taken advantage of if you're a hard worker. This means working busier shifts and being scheduled shorthanded, forcing you to work through mandated breaks. Worked there for over a year, was told employee reviews were common practice, yet never received a review during my time there. Stay far away if you expect to make a living out of this job.
