Pros

The people are very good about sharing knowledge. When there are issues, people don't waste time pointing fingers, and instead, try to solve the problem. Employees are given freedom to explore roles in all areas of the company. In fact, it's encouraged. The people work hard, but there is a nice work life balance in the company.

Cons

Cummins locations are all in small sleepy towns with not a whole lot happening. Of course, a lot of people like that, but it might be problematic for people used to bigger cities. There is a culture of six sigma which is fine, but it's over the top sometimes. There are also disparities between business units on how and when promotions are given.

Pros

Given meaningful responsibilities from early on. Gives you the opportunity to gain experience in different functions and different departments. Work environment teaches you to work cross-functionally. Consensus system develops your selling techniques internally.

Cons

No work - life balance. Getting along with your direct supervisor is critical to avoid forced yearly layoffs. Getting along with bosses is more important for promotions than performance. Expect backstabbing from hyper competitive employees. Some of the leaders are abusive and disrespectful towards employees.

Pros

Cummins believes in training and education. They reward innovation. There is pride in the product and the fact that it helps the environment.

Cons

The company employes a performance model based on a normal distribution. There are a set number of achievers at each level. This produces a homogeneous culture of like-minded people and sometimes competition can be very fierce for the top spots.
