Pros

The products that CA produces are amazing, and they have a great emphasis on professional development to ensure their products are being used effectively. They continue to grow their portfolio by putting resources into R&D and purchasing other small companies to enhance already great products, like i-Ready and i-Ready Classroom Mathematics. There are some really great people working at the company, and there are opportunities to grow in the company. There is a tremendous amount of support throughout, and in almost every field you'll feel supported.

Cons

There is a lot of uncertainty in the company right now. We just lost 4% of employees due to a blunder by the company in one region, which negatively affected bonuses for the entire company. But like everytime there is an issue in our company, upper leadership (especially the CEO) overshares information but really makes no positive action. We seem to be growing as a company, but leadership is putting a focus on some unusual items (like a reading program that no one seems to want or need). In addition, many important members of the PD and PSM teams have moved to sales, which is peculiar. It appears that CA has determined that the only employees at the company who should be compensated at high levels are sales and upper leadership, so don't expect your leaders to last very long because they'll end up in sales at some point. When I joined CA things seemed to be moving at a good pace and a company culture was great, now this are uncertain and we're becoming just another corporate publishing company like HMH or Pearson, which is the opposite way we should be going.

Pros

PTO and benefits packages are great. You will meet incredibly dedicated and talented teammates, and you will grow close to them due to needing emotional and professional support because of an unrealistic workload and pervasive burnout.

Cons

There is a reason why there are constant PD roles posted on LinkedIn! High turnover due to unrealistic work load. Executive leadership is a mess. They have no clue what a day in the life is like, and have incredibly unrealistic travel demands. You will be told the job has local travel, and then you will spend most of the week in hotels. Parents or anyone with family obligations or pets cannot do this job. Managers will be empathetic, but have no power to make this job sustainable. Pay is too low for workload. Not only will you work 60-70 hours a week, you will also be required to track every single minute of the work you do. You will be micromanaged into burnout. Unlimited PTO sounds like a dream, but there are significant blackout periods on the calendar. And managers can and will deny any PTO if they need you to work. You will also be told there is room for career growth, but in reality they offer no pathways towards growing your career at the company. In fact, they treat PD Specialists as less than, and seem to think our feedback and constructive criticism is not important. Teachers often leave the classroom to get away from disrespectful leadership and the company only reinforces those toxic dynamics. They lied about their DEIB commitment as well, leaders are not interested in doing the work themselves, just their employees.
