Pros

Not far from the seven train

Cons

Working for CyraCom in New York City was deeply disappointing. Despite being in one of the most expensive cities on the planet, they pay interpreters—who perform skilled, knowledge-based work—the absolute minimum wage. It’s insulting, especially when you consider that bodega workers and Uber drivers in NYC regularly earn twice as much. The company seems completely disconnected from the cost of living and the value of professional linguistic skills. There’s no incentive to stay, no career progression, and certainly no financial recognition of the mental and emotional labor required for the job. Management is indifferent, turnover is high, and morale is consistently low. If you expect to be treated like a professional or earn a livable wage, look elsewhere. This job might suit someone temporarily trying to get by—but if you’re serious about your career or surviving in NYC, CyraCom is not the place to do it.
