Pros

Generally, an "OK" place to work. Clientele is a "want" type of customer vs. a "need" type of customer and is receptive to personal help which makes selling the product fun.

Cons

The company has changed a lot over the past 4 years going to a more cookie cutter type of philosophy vs allowing managers to be a merchant. Upper level management does not communicate with store management well and the sense of security and satisfaction with your work has somewhat gone away.

Pros

Great co workers, flexible schedule, fun atmosphere working with sports, management can be fun if they are young and understanding

Cons

minimum wage job for the most part, have worked there for 2 years and have had 10 managers, no real opportunity for advancement. the managers cant meet scorecard percentage goal but they expect you to meet it

Pros

-discount -flexible schedule -there are TV's in the store so if there is a major sporting event on and you have to work at least you can watch/listen to it

Cons

-micro-managing -disrespectful uneducated management - told to do 3 different things from three different people - NO payroll; you have to run around like a chicken with your head cut off - regardless of your job title or department that you work in, management makes you do BS tasks all over the store -they need to get their act straight; do they want associates to be customer-service oriented or task-oriented. When you try to do both, you are scolded. - the customers; the average customer is a slob and can't even put something back on a hook. A lot of them ask for random discounts. This isn't a flea market!!! - Corporate people don't have a clue - Most Loss Prevention Managers and District Managers think they are all high and mighty and don't even have the decency to acknowledge you...unless they see you not greet a customer that is 100 feet away from you -In a nutshell, Dicks Sporting Goods used to be a fun, upbeat place to work. It has gone severly downhill over the years. It is a miserable place to work. You are expected to do above and beyond what is realistic with the resources that you have to work with.
