Pros

Dish is a great place to work if you want to be able to build things. As a company, doing projects in-house is almost always preferable to hiring an outside firm. This means plenty of opportunity to build your skills in areas of interest. The people are outstanding - fun to work with and dedicated to good results.

Cons

Vacation time is relatively limited (2 weeks until 5 years). Due to the nature if the industry things change often. If you like things to remain status quo for long periods you may find this frustrating.

Pros

-Can be very rewarding if the effort is put forth. -Profit sharing, and Dish programming discounts are really nice. -Leadership development is also a great attribute

Cons

No college degree? No promotion in management; plain and simple. (This is a new policy in the last year or so) Middle management gets the brunt of the stress from below and above which leaves little time to pursue a degree especially if you have a family. Most management departures are the result of either poor performance (understandable) or a direct result of family pressure from poor work/life balance. Medical ins. Is also equivalent of purchasing your own. Very high deductibles and premiums.

Pros

About 2.5 years ago, we started noticing some big changes in the company: - Systems were upgraded for dispatch, work force management, ERP, CRM, etc. This makes a big difference in the day-to-day life of a tech since we use these systems for work orders, closing work orders, route planning, and inventory - HR starts caring about employees. This means better benefits, more vacation time, and slightly higher pay. - Metrics system: Now techs are evaluated and assessed through baseline metrics - More marketing: the new CEO Clayton has invested a lot in marketing and this has improved the company outlook as well as company morale. - better products: The Hopper has been a hit and it's actually made lives for techs easier since we install mostly the same equipment Charlie is back focused on strategy, while Clayton is doing the ops. It seems like the company is doing well, and this has a real profound influence on day to day operations since we're proud of the brand. Techs who are successful in my experience are those who are independently driven, have a high regard for work done well, and those who prefer to work long hours 4 days a week over 5 shorter days.

Cons

Dish is still a giant corporation. The shift towards metric-based assessments is good overall, but sometimes it's unfair to techs in unique geographies or serve different demographic subscriber bases.
