Pros

With its full employment model and robust benefits, DLC offers a career opportunity to gain wider accounting and finance professional growth and experience in multiple industries and at various levels without the risks typically associated with consulting. I’ve been a consultant with DLC for a combined total of six years. Shortly after joining DLC I attended a companywide event of DLC consultants and internal staff and remember being deeply impressed by the caliber, intelligence and collective experience of so many bright professionals in one room at one time. I am proud and honored to still be counted as one of that impressive team. DLC offers an extremely competitive, full-employment compensation package and excellent benefits as well as robust incentive bonuses to those who provide project, new client, and candidate referrals. The full-employment model eliminates the risk of inconsistent income typically associated with consulting careers, while allowing consultants to gain valuable experience in diverse industries that they may never have gained if they stayed in the same position with one company year over year. Consultants are paid for every hour they work and each project brings new opportunities to learn and to apply one’s professional skills, knowledge, and experience at the top echelon of companies in California and Illinois (and growing). Consultants are provided access to excellent training and technical research tools as well as company branded tools and resources. These tools, along with access to the rich DLC knowledge-base, and the support of the internal team, allow consultants to be highly confident they can effectively handle the needs of each client engagement.

Cons

Sometimes consultants may be asked to take projects involving longer or less than ideal commutes. In my experience, project content and level of work have generally outweighed most commute drawbacks. I have also found clients to be flexible enough in scheduling to mitigate most commute challenges.

Pros

Consulting is not for everyone, but for people who enjoy variety and adapting to changing environments, DLC is perfect. Here are some of my favorite things from working at DLC -Great support from management -Competitive pay and bonus structure (overtime, bonus for new business and contract extensions) -Great benefits -Work is rewarded and complimented (gift cards, gifts mailed to residence) -Meaningful work for a large pool of clientele to choose from -Flexibility with scheduling -Flexibility to work from home if desired -Autonomy to work on clients, DLC trusts their consultants but is there to provide guidance if you reach out -Opportunities to grow and find new things to work on

Cons

The only con I've experienced from working at DLC for the past 2 years has been something that is generally out of DLC's control. Depending on the client, work can be stressful and require lots of overtime. However, the conditions are always communicated to me when a new client is presented, so I am voluntarily choosing to work on a challenging client. The overtime pay helps quite a bit!

Pros

-Employment security undergirded by employment contract with consultants; you are paid whether or not you are assigned to a client giving you peace of mind and stability. -Consultant force rivals the best in the finance arena; the majority are CPAs and Or MBAs from top tier schools -Variety of assignments with Fortune 100 clients including system implementation, financial reporting, process improvement, mergers/acquisitions, and backfiling of financial manager roles -Great benefits including vacation (reaches over 20 days after 5 years), health insurance, life insurance, bonuses for new business and new recruitment, firm wide bonus paid to 401K each year (matching not required) -Flat organization - all consultants have direct reporting relationship to CEO. -Engagement content and management is the client's responsibility, with DLC client liaisons responsible for securing engagements and engagement administration. -Commute compensation provided for long and/or lengthy commutes to/from Clients -Training for software skills, certifications (e.g. CPA, PMP, etc.) and others are provided -With the consultant staff approaching 200 persons in 3 locations (Southern California, Northern California, and Chicago opportunities will continue to abound.

Cons

-Some clients get use to great DLC consultants, and it is hard to pry them away leading to long engagements. This can make providing a variety of experiences with Clients challenging at times. - DLC consultant organization usually does not hire beginners, median experience is 5 years or greater -If you are looking for a way to climb the ladder in terms of position/salary, you should not expect this at DLC; consultants with long tenures at DLC had usually already been on the corporate ladder and already have a good salary base when they are hired in. This is a good place to get off the Corporate Ladder and still have great compensation and benefits. -Connectedness between management and consultants is challenging given that consultants are always at client sites.
