Pros

I've been an employee for nearly 13 years, and there are a ton of reasons for why I've stayed. I feel that the success and wellness of my work life and personal life are important to the company and those I report to. You would be hard-pressed to find an employer with a greater investment in your overall success. I'm given all the tools I need to do the job, both in the office and in the field. The work is challenging, but that's exactly what keeps it interesting. This is a production business, and if you work hard and produce you're rewarded in a number of ways, both in opportunities and financial incentives. I spent the first half of my career solely in the field and found multiple opportunities for advancement along the way. The benefits are very good, and the company does an annual review to make sure there's not a better deal out there. The company is still fairly young, and that's given me the feeling that I've helped build something. There is a very strong support system among my peers, and if anyone needs help of any kind everyone steps up. It is a family-style work atmosphere all the way to the top. If you're ever at the corporate building, it's not uncommon to bump into the CEO and get a hug or high-five from him. Donan is a leader in the industry with an unparalleled infrastructure. This has translated to a growing client base, and there's solid job security. My only concern is keeping up with all the new business, which is a great problem to have. If you're a forensic engineer or fire investigator interested in the private sector, this is where you want to work.

Cons

If you don't like change, this isn't the place for you. Donan is constantly changing and evolving, but that's what it takes to be an industry leader.

Pros

This is truly the most supportive company I've ever been with. From day one - actually, from the interview process - communication has been clear, professional and extremely friendly throughout. I joined the company at the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020. It was clear that this organization is nimble and focused on employee well-being and client service. Having been with the company only a few weeks, I can confidently say the on-boarding and training processes are clearly planned, well executed and geared for employee success. It's clear Donan constantly seeks to improve its technical and managerial processes. Work/life balance is excellent.

Cons

I've honestly not had any negative experiences with the company as a whole, the management or my colleagues.

Pros

Flexible work schedule, good work/life balance, work from home/remotely in my region, company vehicle, resources/tools are always available (or can be gathered) to accomplish my job, willingness to change/adapt and try new things, great network of people to ask questions for new hires or if issues arise. I enjoy working on projects and the satisfaction of completing them in a timely manner (versus working on one project for several months or years). I feel like I'm using my discipline-specific skills more here than in my past jobs while also challenging me to learn and expand my own knowledge (which is also encouraged and supported through training). I'm definitely happy that I joined the company and excited to see what's next for me.

Cons

Coming from a design-orientated field there were a lot of growing pains with learning the new system, programs, expectations, and get you enough information to initially have you go out on project on your own. The first few months were difficult, but I was assigned good mentors so I could ask questions and was able to shadow several engineers on their own field projects so I could see what "good" looked like. I took a pay cut to work for the company, but the trade off for more flexible schedules and less overtime (which I haven't run into here) have given me a better quality of life than my past jobs - I haven't been with the company long enough to see how the raises and other bonuses supplement my own salary. I would also like to be more focused on my specific discipline than dividing my time between what I know/like and roof inspections (which is typical for every employee at Donan - all the engineering disciplines perform roof inspections as a full-time employees).
