Pros
This is a home-grown company with multiple generations of strong leadership. Top leadership is in touch with the work done in the field and supports that work directly, by providing solid training, ongoing training, quality equipment, clear expectations, and fair pay. You have to be a good time manager to thrive here. The company and its managers respect intrinsic motivation, focused work, and honesty. They also respect your boundaries of work/life balance if you set them. A good attitude is rewarded with flexibility and care. If you prefer short-term projects over long-term projects, this is a great role -- get in, get out, write up a report, and look forward to a new thing tomorrow. You can learn something new every day in this role.
Cons
There's no water cooler or morning coffee. There are opportunities to interact with people every day, but it's not a traditional office setting. You can hit the ground running after a few weeks of training, but it takes about a year to hit your stride. I sleep well every night because this is a mentally and physically challenging job with clear goals.
