Pros

A substantial number of dedicated people, great benefits, they will do many things to ensure that the potential for a layoff is kept low. Also some interesting things being done in the non-utility businesses.

Cons

Most of the previous reviews are consistent with pointing out that the lack of career opportunities is incredible. Even for many of the dedicated people, there are just tons of employees who don't care if they ever get promoted or learn another thing in their entire career. Therefore, the company spends almost no time on career advancement opportunities. It is as if the deal is, "we will give you great benefits, do everything we can so that you do not get laid off, but don't expect to ever get promoted or have someone even care".

Pay OK for Michigan. Remodeled areas are nice,

Cons

Unspoken rule is to work however many hours it takes, even weekends and never bill for over 40 hours per week. You can but if you do you'll get paid once and shown the door the next week.

Pros

Very good benefits such as pension, 401K; wages are OK. The people at the local level are VERY good people with whom to work.

Cons

Management does not want to hear any opinions or information that is different from what they believe and they do not tolerate such. The district manager to whom I had a dotted line had me placed on measured performance because I agreed with a union officer on a point (only the manager knew this - I didn't even tell my boss because I wanted to be discreet). When I submitted pages of the work I had done and was doing, he pressured my boss into letting me go anyway. Also, they don't listen to what the locals want/need and if the locals take the initiative to get the job done, corporate is down on them even when the locals are right.
