Pros

- Development: significant investment in personal and professional development for its employees - General Management: values general managers and enables inexperienced employees to take small risks (at least conceptually) - Smart people: There are a lot of many smart people at DaVita, but unfortunately most are not quite as smart as they think

Cons

- Busy work: The two senior leaders make virtually every decision, so VPs and mid-levels people spend most of their time spinning wheels and doing busy work but lack the ability to make any decisions - Culture: purely a cosmetic costume designed to reduce turnover and facilitate below average wages for field employees. The paragon of culture is just on the posters but not really lived. - Highly political: Headquarters operates at the opposite pole of "one for all." There are lots of musketeers because everyone is stabbing each other in the back. - Unethical: Employs dishonest or bush-league tactics to reduce costs (laughable 401(k) program, "unlimited" PTO for some, phony bonus numbers, PTO required for holidays, ESSP program) and inflate the "poster" value of benefits (you have to read the fine print for everything it promises) - Strategically: has accomplished nothing outside of dialysis, which is about the easiest thing to run in health care. It really does not understand how to articulate and analyze strategic frameworks, and its strategy can be summarized with: "what is Fresenius doing?"

Pros

Arguably the most well-known dialysis companies in the world. Massively established in the sector, job security is a certainty.

Cons

Long hours, mandatory overtime. If patients are delayed or have access issues, they still need their treatment and there's no relieving shift like a traditional hospital RN position. You wait, bill for the delay, and do your treatment. If you're scheduled for a 7a - 5p, and have a patient in the AM who has a four hour treatment, and another in the afternoon with a four hour treatment, you're already looking at 12 hours and that's not accounting for transport delays, imaging, IR, or any other procedures delaying your start time.

Pros

Paid training is offered for new graduates. The star learning program teaches a lot. They are Closed on major Holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas and closed every Sunday. There is definitely room for growth and opportunities if nephrology and dialysis happens to be your thing. Tuition reimbursement for PCTs who want to become an RN and RNs wanting to pursue BSNs and MSNs

Cons

Really low hourly pay for an RN job considering the heavy work load. It’s a 16 hour workday and only a half hour lunch break. If you don’t have a good technician to work with you will suffer gravely. You have to deal with lazy PCTs who refuse to do their job right But then try tell you how to do yours. Starting at 5am and getting out close to 9pm is grueling. Team mates will Try to guilt trip you into not quitting by saying that dialysis is the best and all other areas of nursing are no good.
