A Sad Story

Pros

Great benefits, great human resource policies, has a great history, was founded by a fantastic man - Bill Darden, has had many great leaders, employees in the restaurant have built the company. Has had a great history of loyal employees and people who have cared about the company.

Cons

Has lost it's way in the last few years. Being the largest Dinner house company has become the most important driver. The recently retired CEO damaged the company severely. Hundreds of the founding leaders of the company have left or been retired/laid off. Many of the new leaders at all levels have no depth of the history of the company and what it was that made it great. Many of these leaders have become self consumed, and driven by personal gain unfortunately. Those who are left from the past are still loyal and can be trusted. New leadership at all levels has come from acquired companies and has no loyalty to the company or it's long time employees. A sad story.

Pros

Facilities are clean and attractive; view of lake is pleasant. Peer level co-workers are generally fun and easy to work with. Cafe is on the premises. Daily fruit, nuts, snacks provided, along with unlimited soda, tea, coffee. Clinic on premises and some advantages due to that. Parking garage available. Occasional events on holidays with food provided. Company discounts for Darden concepts. Benefits reasonable but not amazing. Wi-fi available.

Cons

Company culture steadily deteriorating since the early 2000's. Long term employees with benefits being eliminated. Diversity preached every working hour. Non-minority men over 45 an endangered species here, unless in a white collar position. Women definitely favored over men in lower level roles to balance white collar numbers. Cliques is an understatement; the arrogance at this place seemed palpable. Morale was sub-par, and there are fraternization rules to eliminate the appearance of "favoritism". Such policies instilled a resultant "chilling" effect, drastically negatively affecting friendliness between management and lower level RSC staff. This helped to make management oblivious and unresponsive to underlings serious concerns. Office cubicles are small. Cafe food was not a bargain; if it's company subsidized, it was not noticeable. Gym not free. Size of the campus is a challenge, as is leaving the building for any period of time because immense parking lot distances and complex traffic situation; better to take the day off. Company computers were made available to management leaving, but not to general workers let go.

Pros

Nice building and the CEO seemed like a pretty cool guy with some great ideas for the company. Parking is close to the building.

Cons

I found my time at this company to be miserable from day one. I was overloaded with work to the point I didn’t have a life and I absolutely hated my boss. He was highly authoritarian, supporting outdated management philosophies, and was just a jerk in general. I hope not the whole company is like this. Other managers I met seemed more the norm so maybe I just got a bad apple. But HR did nothing to stop the bro mentality my manager fostered on our team. I have a wonderful boss now and love my job so leaving was the best part about that experience.
