Pros

Having Datadog on your resume will keep recruiters in your inbox constantly. The product is top-notch and the company as a whole is set up for success long-term. The office is pretty cool. You will learn a lot and have exposure to good logos regardless of what segment you work in.

Cons

CSMs are capped on bonus payout at 100%. You are bringing in a ton of revenue for the company but not seeing any return on that because CSMs are not paid like sales people, and yet are expected to hit static revenue targets regardless of book of business composition. Sales targets are 100% your primary focus, but less than 1/4 of your variable payout. Leaders will say that’s not the case, then proceed to ask about your pipeline and where to fill the gaps. If you are a sales-driven CSM or Account Manager, you should look for an org where your potential isn’t capped from a financial perspective. Instead of overachieving, you will be sandbagging for the next quarter to scrape to get 100% of your payout. This CSM role demands more work day-to-day than any CSM role I have ever seen, but the financial recognition (or lack thereof) is not worth the amount of effort, sweat, and tears you will have to put up with on a weekly basis. You handle billing and support because you handle all billing tasks, manual effort to reconcile billing each month, and the support team did not scale quickly enough to meet the rapid scale of customers. Escalations and support tickets can take weeks, if not months, to resolve. It is incredibly demanding and high-stress, and you will often be the sounding board for customer frustration. I would highly advise looking elsewhere because I can guarantee you that most CS roles are higher-paying and less demanding and stressful than the environment at Datadog. Do yourself a favor and find a culture that supports its CS teams, ICs, and managers, and one that takes input from the front lines. Last but not least, career pathing is minimal. It’s poorly defined and band aid solutions have been put in place to be able to say that feedback has been taken, but segments are locked and you can’t move between segments without it being lateral.

Pros

- The company provides competitive salary and benefits. So you can live that cozy, buffered comfortable life. - Work/life balance was excellent

Cons

- Fear driven leadership, just from my experience. But there may have been great managers that I didn't get to interact with.

Pros

Great product Free snacks Lunch 3 times a week

Cons

My experience at Datadog has been nothing short of terrible no matter how hard I worked. I was consistently booking meeting with companies that were either too small or a poor fit which resulted in no opportunities being created and no commission for myself. We are told to play the cards we are dealt but it seems like across the organization there is some serious issues with how accounts are being sourced/distributed. I was constantly being cheated out of money and talked down to by upper management. A lot of the Sales Managers and Account Executives are hardly even capable of doing what some of the SDRs are able to do. However, since we are at the bottom of the food chain and subject to the toxic gossip and office politics that occurs at Datadog.. we are often the ones blamed. I’ve learned a lot at Datadog before leaving. I attribute none of this to mentorship, it was self taught and I pushed myself as hard as I could. A lot of shady things going on in management right now because they know something is wrong. People are leaving in droves and I don’t blame them, people being promoted are favorites and not based on actual skill/knowledge. Don’t be fooled by the cool swag packs - the culture and actual care for employees here is horrendous.

First and foremost, we're sorry that you had this experience while at Datadog. We do not tolerate bullying and hope that all Datadogs take this to their People Business Partner should they encounter it. We will be sure this is passed along to the team and looked into. As a fast scaling business, we are always conscious of the impact on our evolving culture from individuals who join and leave. There are times when that impact is greater than we anticipate, and we are working hard to make sure that that does not reflect poorly on the constructive and collaborative environment we aim to maintain. We will be addressing these issues internally with our leadership team to better understand where this is happening, and why. Our commitment to that constructive and collaborative environment is unchanged, and we will work to ensure our manager training and development is kept updated and relevant for our identified needs. We understand that shifting to a hybrid model after two years of full-time remote work may be challenging for some. However, we do believe that a hybrid workplace experience is the best option to encourage the innovation and collaboration that happens in person. Should there be an extenuating circumstance, we highly encourage all to work with their Manager and People Business Partner to identify a workable solution. We understand that mental health is serious and again, we encourage our employees to speak with their Manager and People Business Partner to discuss any concerns they may have. We also offer numerous benefits to support our employees' mental health and highly encourage employees to take advantage of the resources available, as well as simply taking time off to recharge. We certainly do not want anyone to be forfeiting their health and wellbeing and want to work with each Datadog to ensure all feel properly supported to do their best work. Know that your feedback has been heard, and we will ensure these topics continue to be addressed so we can continue to improve, learn, and grow as an organization.
