Pros

- You learn quickly why the product is so liked by customers - everyone on engineering uses the product daily, and is comfortable giving feedback in public about how to make the product even better. This short feedback loop + celebration of people that propose and champion bottom-up solutions enables you to have the excitement of a startup with the stability of a publicly traded company with product market fit. - Not resting on its laurels: new product areas are added every year, and each one ties into the platform created by the others, so scope increase doesn't come with a lost of focus. - Culture of supporting each other and continuous learning (employee-led workshops, brown-bag presentations, inviting external speakers) - Opportunities to give back to the community (donation matching, D&I scholarships for students from in underrepresented groups) - Many opportunities to mentor and be mentored - Opportunities for internal mobility for those who are interested in switching into other fields, especially when coming from non-traditional backgrounds - Has been very responsive to COVID concerns, accommodates remote work and health needs, has a reasonable return-to-office policy - Interesting social events between departments that don't just revolve around alcohol and "happy hours" (e.g. pumpkin carving, volunteering, attending sports games, escape rooms)

Cons

- Rapid headcount growth and an cautiousness around strict top-down process can mean that newcomers or new teams can take a while to get acclimated - Standard tech company unlimited PTO concerns - you need to remember to take time off at your own pace, can be easy to forget to do this when some people around you take time off very willingly - If you're not in one of the main time zones for your department, you may have to work irregular (not 9 to 5) to align with your team (this could be a pro depending on your sleeping schedule).

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are excited to hear that your experience at Datadog has been so positive across multiple aspects. Meanwhile, we definitely acknowledge the areas of improvements you shared. As we continue to scale rapidly, improving our onboarding experience as well as building an agile internal communication structure have always been top of mind for us. Scaling a global engineering team certainly brings challenges, and we strive to create a workplace where our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. Feedback like this helps us continue to grow and improve our processes, and we appreciate you taking the time to leave this review so that we can continue to learn from our missteps. Thank you once again, and we are lucky to have you in the pack!

Pros

I've been at Datadog for 1.5 years now and I've had a good experience here so far, for a few reasons: 1. Frontend--The frontend web dev work is complex and interesting, and there is a ton of it. We have great frontend platform and design ops teams that support us, and we work with modern tooling and libraries. Notably, I feel valued for my frontend skills here in a way that I haven't at previous companies. 2. The product -- as a related point, the product itself is simply fun to work on. We do a ton of dogfooding of our own product at Datadog, and it's super motivating to work on a tool that I and my coworkers use every day and have a ton of opinions about how to improve. 3. Career growth -- the company is growing, and with that comes opportunities to try new things, take on new responsibilities, and get promoted. 4. Inclusion-- I can only speak to my own experience (I joined Summer 2020 so I've been mostly remote), but the culture seems pretty positive and professional. As a female software developer, I have felt supported, valued and respected throughout my time here.

Cons

The company is growing, which comes with the inevitable hiccups such as occasional changes in org structure and the continual need to hire more and more people to keep up with all the work.
