A Company In Transition

Pros

Many wonderful people throughout the company, and the service teams are absolutely amazing.

Cons

There is not a lot of stability and many employees are disgruntled or unhappy. Those who have been with the company a long time and happy are now uncertain about the changing environment. The new hires are happy, until they see behind the curtain. Merrill hires young associates who do most of the work for the older sales reps, but as soon as they figure out they are not going to make money or reap the benefits, they leave for a better opportunity. That is Merrill's SOP; there is constant turnover. The company is still going through a massive transition after change to private equity management, which is causing many internal politics challenges. It is unclear what will happen with the business. No job is completely secure.

It's a job, not a career

Pros

Flexible hours, generous pto, mostly good people. Location is convenient, ok 401k match. Consistently reinvesting in this facility. Not to bad if you if you can ignore the occasional unwarranted drama.

Cons

Upper management philosophy seems to be outdated. To many power hungry people at the mid to upper management levels who often dismiss the ideas of those below them.

Pros

-Compensation -Benefits -Flexibility to work remotely based on department, leader, and teammates -Some really great leaders if you land on the right team

Cons

-Lots of organizational and product team shifts and restructure with minimal, if any warning -Overabundance of meetings for the sake of filling calendars -Inconsistent priorities within some departments and product groups -Technology that is way behind the curve in several aspects of internal use and customer product -Training and communication for employees and customers was improving at the time I was laid off, but was not set as the priority it needed to be at -Information and one-off documentation all over the place and not managed or updated effectively -Work life balance varies greatly by role and department, as many salaried are tasked with enough to keep them busy 60-70 hours a week due to poor planning and clear priorities from the top down
