Pros

There are many employees here who work hard and are very pleasant to be around in spite of the hostile work environment. The clients are extremely gracious and kind and it is a rewarding feeling to assist fire and EMS departments. On a day-to-day basis, it's these truly genuine coworkers and clients who will inspire you enough to not get discouraged by management and to make it through another day. The PTO offered here is significant (the office closes one Friday a month and at 3:30 on another Friday a month), but it is worth mentioning that several employees stay late every day for little to recognition or compensation for the long hours.

Cons

The significant challenges in working at this company have been named again and again in many reviews and by many different employees, past and present. To say that it is difficult to work here would be a drastic understatement. Honestly, there are too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. The work itself is not impossible to do, but the insurmountable workload will overwhelm even the most enthusiastic and skilled professional. You will be weighed down with assignments and tasks yet assaulted with unreasonable deadlines and expectations. Though I can't speak for everyone, I think it's safe to say that most employees aren't inherently bad or unappreciative or incapable. We work hard and do what we can, but we're only human. Denying us the adequate resources and tools needed to do our jobs then chiding us for not meeting demand is not good business. The classist division between management and regular employees is also a huge problem. No leader can behave pretentiously and speak condescendingly and still, somehow, expect their employees to respect them. Respect is given as it is received. That's why there's no respect in the office.

Nothing good about this company

Pros

Benefits are decent. Employees receive one day off a month. Great clients. Despite awful senior management, we have great colleagues who do most of the work around the office.

Cons

From an outdated office to an outdated website, one can tell how much the owners, Latha and Raj, put back into the company. Absolutely nothing. Deccan is only concerned with lining their pockets. There is a reason why our products look like they are from the 80's. It is because the owners do not want to invest any $$ to updating and making these products better. I almost feel like they are scamming our clients who happen to be Fire and EMS departments. These products barely work! The reviews are true. Deccan is a revolving door. The ones who leave on their own accord are the lucky ones. The rest are stuck here. No one wants to stay here. Upper management has fostered a work culture that's proven to be very difficult to work in. People constantly walk on eggshells. Fake it til you make it, I guess. If you are not on the 'in' crowd, be afraid that everyday could be your last day. Calling Deccan's senior management abusive and hostile is being too kind.

Pros

The time off is the major pro for Deccan. 3 weeks vacation to start plus 1 week sick time and 1 Friday off a month. In addition they closed the office for two weeks the past two Christmas holidays and have everyone the time paid. The community service events have been fun too. Lots of fun office events. Coworkers are great. Everyone works as a team for the most part. They're always friendly to each other and enjoy each other's company during events.

Cons

The biggest con is executive management. The micromanaging and distrust begins at the top and filters it's way down through the company. It is widely known that the CEO is moody and expects all employees to have smiles at all times. When she is on vacation the mood in the office lightens significantly. Everyone walks on egg shells. Wondering who will get fired this week. There's a reason there's a staggeringly high turnover rate here. It's because people don't feel appreciated or secure in their jobs. Jamba Juice is nice but doesn't make up for the fact that we aren't trusted to do our jobs. No retirement plan. Below average health benefits. You cannot add a spouse to your benefits. Not flexible at all with scheduling. Everyone has to work 8:30 - 5:30. Except for higher level managers who seem to leave earlier most of the time. Everyone is salary yet is docked for hours missed and not compensated for overtime. The office morale is miserable.
