DFAS will pay for your higher education

Pros

- Some people seem to advance fairly quickly - Typical govt. benefits - Flexible work schedule (must work 8 hours, 6 of which need to be during their core hours) - Opportunity to get involved in process improvement teams (ie: Lean6) - Plenty of free time to get involved in social activities or complete additional training courses

Cons

I have only worked there for a little over a year but have noticed the following issues: - Inefficient use of work force, for example, my team only really has enough work to last us half a day for 11 months out of the year (which may be a plus for some people) - Less interest in middle management to actually fix a problem, for example, I know of at least two departments who have decided not to correct an issue in their department and let it move down the chain before being flagged for correct because their numbers were looking bad - There seems to be little formal training for specific positions so within one team you see quite a variation in ideas of what is correct and what is not with regards to smaller details - Available training is very vague and not very applicable to positions - Management seems to have difficulty enforcing the rules or encouraging employees to follow the rules, for example, my direct team leader only works 5.5 of his 8 hours during the core hours and despite my supervisor asking where he is, nothing seems to change (this has been happening for the whole time I have been here) - Leadership quotes customer satisfaction to be in the upper 80th/lower 90th percentile, yet my friends in other DoD agencies suggest that most people in their agencies are dissatisfied
