Good products, poor services, sales and management.

Pros

Stable company, worldwide presence, brand recognition, great products.

Cons

No encouragement or interaction from staff, entire business based on spreadsheets, no CRM, shortsighted sales staff and management. Terrible services organisation, will never be a solutions organisation due to relying on shifting "units" as driven by managers of spreadsheets and not of people. Not able to hold on to key staff.

Pros

currently stable. unexpectedly they are now hiring when other companies are firing. they are trying to grow the business -- and i am frankly surprised.

Cons

there is so much happening that it is hard to keep focus. you can never be caught up because there are so many balls in the air. also (and a biggie) the benefits keep getting pulled back... nickle and diming the health care benefits (more being paid by the employees) and options are gone, bonuses have shrunk, stock purchasing gone too. also too much emphasis in offshoring projects... it isn't working, retention of overseas staff is poor and projects slip.

Pros

Dell is great in that it allows you free reign to define your career, and takes your hopes and desires in account whe planning your career. There's a good, smart set of people working in each group, and Dell tries to stay on the cutting edge of technologies and trends.

Cons

If you want to advance, you have no choice but to be based in Round Rock. Reorganization is a way of life... management changes roles about every 6 months. Not a great place for stability.
