Not the worst place to work but pay is not great because partners take home such huge pay. We won't all make partner!
Pros
Market leader in some areas, interesting work and big clients. Good opportunities training wise, most people on the graduate scheme will be put through a well respected external qualification and further study is usually paid for, with study leave provided in addition.
Cons
Pay is not good for the commitment, talent, and hard work expected. Partners take home phenomenal pay - but we won't all make it partnership. Deloitte don't always make the most of people's individual talents, its easy to get overlooked if you don't fit quite a boring/narrow mould. Promotion and recognition prospects are hugely varied - some departments are generous about performance evaluation, others require a lot more for you to progress. You have to be really quite senior before you get any sort of opportunity to genuinely build up real client relationships - junior contact is often limited largely to emails, a few calls, and very very occasional meetings where there is usually no chance for you to speak/contribute/interact, so little chance to engage with the client. There's no sense of end game when developing people - I have often got the impression that they would rather have a lot of consistently reliable mediocre people than help you focus your talents and help you to make them work for the firm.
