Pros

DTO is a small company compared to the Class I railroads and consultants I worked for my first 19 years in the railroad industry. At DTO I am not a number; I like not being a number. Senior staff allows you to explore and implement process improvements. There is a team environment within the Engineering Department. This is the best place I have worked in my 20 years in the railroad industry. The complaints I read about DTO must have been early on in operations or from people who never worked for a Class I railroad. DTO treats their employees much better than the Class I railroads. Staff is not on-call 24/7. Maintainers and technicians get to go home at night and not be on-call. Eng management is flexible with your time; time-off for appt's or to attend kid's functions is allowed and not frowned upon in any way.

Cons

DTO is part of a Public Private Partnership which dictates how the company must report, operate and maintain to a public agency. The 1,100 agreement is at times difficult to navigate given the multiple interpretations in the language or lack of language covering specific areas of operations and maintenance.
