Pros

- Social gathering, inspirational trips, Parties - Nice office spaces, food, people - Depending on the country: job security, pension, phone bills covered, equipment, etc.

Cons

- Not a place you can grow easily - Lots of favouritism, pride and attitude - Salary talks and Talent talks are useless - a lot like IDEO...but not really.

Designit Response

Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback for us, although we must admit that we are deeply shocked to hear about your experience. We have actually shared your comments with our entire team in Tokyo and we have all agreed that we cannot imagine any of our former employees making such a review, nor does it reflect the current culture of this office. Our most recent well-being survey results have actually shown quite the opposite of what you’ve written. Our Designits feel that they have a close-knit and passionate family in Tokyo, where we spend a great deal of our time caring for both our clients and for one another. Since establishing this office in 2013, we have done our best to ensure that not only do we hire fairly (and in fact we have an even split between men and women and have loved having many international colleagues) but that all rewards, promotions, etc are given strictly based on merit. Of course we know that we’re not perfect and so we encourage any Designit who feels that they’re not being treated fairly to come and discuss these issues with us in confidence. Our doors are always open to hear both positive and critical feedback, as we know that it’s what helps us make the work experience for all Designits even better.

New Leadership Needed.

Pros

Designit has a great design pedigree, and over the years, they've done some incredibly impressive work. There's also a tremendous amount of talent in many of the studios all over the world, especially in the European studios, where I used to work.

Cons

Unfortunately, Designit's global leadership team has no idea what they're doing—understandably, since none of them have any experience running a design business. While the CEO, Nic, has good credentials in the traditional management consulting space, he is at a loss as to how to scale a design consultancy or even retain it at its existing size. Over the last couple of years, Designit has gradually lost key leaders from the business, and Nic has slowly but surely surrendered business decisions to Wipro, which has resulted in a massive reduction of headcount across the board in an attempt to become "cost neutral." Nic, being ex-Capco (FS Management Consulting), has built a leadership team around himself comprising other ex-Capco people. No harm in that, except that he’s put them in roles in which they have no prior experience, in an industry that they have no experience, and as if that wasn’t enough, he’s also promoted them from holding middle management positions to being leaders of a global design firm. The end result: Designit is now much worse off than it was before Nic took over. The business is rudderless, and lacks vision.... Nic and his team have had a crack at it; it's time to hand over the baton. Designit needs a leadership team with a real track record of leading and scaling a digital design business. My advice to Wipro, poach someone from Deloitte Digital, Accenture SONG, or one of the big independents offering full-service digital agencies. You've invested heavily in Designit over the years, you desperately need the capability, but it can't continue like this.
