Pros

- Work life balance - Good benefits (not salary or bonus though) - The nicest colleagues you can think of who are genuinely nice, helpful sincere people.

Cons

- Politics: people who are favoured by management are "safe" from jobs cut and new roles will be created for them to keep them onshore ie NY, London and Singapore - Too focused on cost cutting, only aim of management - Internal mobility is very very rare - Very bad bonus in operations - A million applications / systems which are either not functioning as they ought to be after all the massive investment pouring into it. - Some of the senior management (MD level) has no clue to what the department they are overseeing is about, thus really easy for them to say move jobs to lower cost locations without thinking of the implications

Pros

If your lucky enough to be in a front-facing role, then you can make something of the position you are in.

Cons

Personal development is not a priority as everything is now considered a cost control measure. Also, personal reviews do not appear to carry much value as ratings seem to be pre-determined.

Pros

- Good benefits compared to other banks (3 weeks vacation for 1st year at Associate-level or higher, 4 weeks per year thereafter, VPs and above get 5 weeks per year) - Solid, stable bank that has weathered the financial crisis well

Cons

- Some morale issues, depending on the department (some depts have experienced more turnover/restructuring than others) - Technology is generally subpar here compared to other banks - Although salary and bonus can be OK for some, it is under-market for many; new, unproven employees hired from the street can be earning more than experienced, tenured employees who already know the business) - Politics can be especially heavy here, depending on the department and the local manager. Management seems to place a high focus on visibility instead of overall contribution. For example, someone who stays until 7pm every day BSing most of the day and then beginning to work hard in the afternoon will be viewed more favorably than someone who comes early, leaves early but works hard the whole day. - Uneven standards for performance evaluations and promotions depending on the department and local manager.
