Pros

Strong engineering emphasis - especially in transportation and water/waste-water. Some specialties in architecture - judicial, libraries and some public service building designs.

Cons

Family-owned business, with significant cultural change when management was passed to second generation.

Pros

Good for people looking to get their feet wet after college. Flexible. Good work life balance. Decent benefits.

Cons

No room for advancement and very boring monotonous work. Horrible for entry to mid level employees looking to grow within the company. Management does not acknowledge accomplishments of employees and continually provides remedial work despite requests to provide challenging, engaging work. Management has "me first attitude " and does not set up employees to succeed. Management is quick to take credit for project success yet are quick to blame others for project failures. I.e did not speak with project manager for a month despite constant emails phone calls and deadlines.

Project Architect

Pros

They had a few projects due to teaming up with a larger Architect of Record HOK but the majority of the work and hours go to the Peoria Office.

Cons

They will use you for your California State Architect License to stamp and sign drawings the Peoria office does for California Department of Corrections. Sacramento office is smoke and mirrors to win California projects. They fly a team from Fairfax and Peoria to interview and win work, Sacramento is a satellite office, majority of work is assigned to the Peoria office where pay is less due to lower cost of living. California pay is low as they compare California Salaries to the Peoria and other office where cost of living is lower. No overtime, no bonuses, no raises that keep up with inflation rate. No pay increase after becoming licensed. You have no say in projects, the Peoria office is THEE office you are their support for smaller buildings in the project. Most of the sales of working for them is how great the Peoria office is and their culture. Annual review increases expectations and goals for you however any raise adjustments are not significant.
