Pros

Great people, great life/work balance. Great atmosphere

Cons

Since the takeover (I won’t call it a merger) atmosphere is destroyed. People with 20 plus years in being let go. Discovery Communications always keeps their own people when it comes down to a choice. Information needed to move forward is not shared. Disheartening.

Caution Thrown to the Wind as Finance Beckons

Pros

Pay, Benefits, Incentives and Work/Life Balance offerings are very generous. Environment is business casual or casual, and comfortable. Line-level teams look out for each other.

Cons

Finance is King. Regardless of contributions, tenure or institutional knowledge, Company is ok flushing veteran talent and historical knowledge to save a buck. Expectations are becoming unreal. Everything is “go fast” with minimal planning, and risk analysis happens as projects proceed. Pitfalls dwell until they boil over, and “come to Jesus” meetings are becoming part of the process. Despite the word “Communications” in the company name, the company is terrible at communicating. HR is the worst and very inconsistent with employee relations. Sometimes they over-communicate and are too clingy, and other times they under-communicate and are MIA. They do not have line-level management’s best interest in mind, and act mindlessly based on Legal or Executive desires.
