Pros

Some truly innovative and talented people work for Discovery. Perfect opportunity to learn from and collaborate with the some of the best in their field. Benefits are fantastic! Health/Dental/Vision, balance days and generous time-off.

Cons

Unfortunately, every day you come to work could be your last. You may walk in and have a lovely box next to your desk, signaling an end to your career at Discovery. The layoffs seem to come out of no-where and have almost nothing to do with performance. It's most likely your boss and your boss's boss had no warning either. This leads to another major con, poor communication. Large companies like Discovery are plagued by this, but at Discovery the little communication that leaks down always harbors doom and gloom. The doom & gloom communications have employees in a constant CYA mode. In-fact, that's the reason most processes are put in place, not to solve the problem at hand, but to cover everyone in-case it goes bad. All of this breeds a culture of fear. On a final note, even-though a Pro is that you work with some top people, the opportunities for advancement internally are slim. As several others have mentioned in other reviews, management seldom looks internally to fill positions. 90% of the time the position will go to someone brought in from the outside; a person that will take at least a year to get up to speed if they ever do. They won't even discuss the possibility of your advancement.

Pros

The building is nice :). As I stated in my headline, I think the benefits are really good and especially having a doctor's office right in building is convenient. I think the pay is reasonable if you compare it to other media companies and there are some really good people working for Discovery.

Cons

Change, change and more change... Not only is there no security with this company but the priorities change daily. Every couple of months, you hear about more layoffs and as Discovery continues to grow, the employees are putting in extraordinary hours. The work/life balance seems non-existent and the overall staff morale is extremely low.

Pros

Interesting architectural details and floor plans. A good in-house health center. Some relatively creative personalities, for the area. As corporations go, relatively casual and creative environment.

Cons

At its worst, it is a high-pressure factory for dumbed-down, constantly re-cut and recycled programming. A machine built entirely on ad sales, paired with the lowest-cost programming filler it can find. It is a corporate environment, and as attractive and creative as it may look to a newcomer, it is, again, strictly a corporate environment- which can lead to pretty severe disappointment if incoming expectations fail to take that into consideration. Casual look, even a casual feel, but not a casual mindset.
