The marketing organization is a mess.

Pros

* 9/80 work schedule, with every other Friday off=work/life balance * Good compensation and benefits

Cons

If you're an engineer, you likely have it pretty good at Dolby. But the marketing organization is a mess. Since I've been here for ~3 years, marketing has had either poor leadership or none. After ousting the former (underperforming) CMO, they haven't hired a new one and current leaders do not have marketing expertise. Instead of hiring a CMO to help shape a new org, they bring in outside agency/consultants to size up the organizational issues and determine how to create efficient processes and implement them. It's been months of a slow downward spiral and many people are out looking for other opportunities. Bringing in outside consultants instead of using inside talent is commonplace. Many in marketing biz groups don't have the skills to do their jobs yet are rewarded, while others who are highly experienced/qualified are suppressed and instead, consultants are empowered to make decisions.

Pros

Every other Friday off; smart people; fun events;

Cons

Dolby is a small company that operates like a large company with all of its bureaucratic processes; over 30% of the employees are new within the past 3 years; while the company seems very employee centric, town halls, events, training etc there is something nasty beneath the surface; employees seem to disappear over night, there one day, gone the next, no warning, no communication. There are undercurrents of unhappiness in many employee groups. Jobs get "eliminated" on a whim. There are managers who are renouned for behaving badly to their employees including temper tantrums and out bursts, yet nothing is ever done. There may be some good employees but there are so many more excellent ones that have left or been pushed out ..mostly to much better jobs; All this might be tolerated if the company offered great salaries or bonuses but they pay on the low end and for tthe past few years, bonuses have been slim
