Pros

because hours are varied, there is no problem getting time off for appointments. I have been there too many years to go somewhere else, I have worked for DG for 15 years, and get 3wks paid vacation. goodbenefits, but you have to pay. they match up to 5% for 401K.

Cons

Low pay, very hard physical work, menial jobs for management. they require you to work alone in the store sometimes, and make you go to other stores to work.

Pros

There aren't any good reasons to work there except the glorified title of manager

Cons

I worked open to close for almost 9 months, 7 days a week. Over 98 hours a week. The district manager could care less. All she would say is push that freight and recover the store. They don't offer the employees a discount. They want you to run a store with only 1 employee in the store because they are always cutting hours. I did get a raise after a year, it was only $8 a week. The payroll hours they give you to run the store is about 150 hours a week. No bonuses !! They say you can get bonuses, but they are not reachable.

Pros

DG has a good environment, is family oriented, and has an on-site gym. It's located in an excellent place to live and also offers good benefits. The 5% 401k match is great, but you have to wait too long to get it (1 year). A 180 day policy would be better. Relocation is good, even if Prudential is a pain to work with.

Cons

Senior management and HR are clueless about middle management incompetence. Caveat emptor. Just because the hiring manager talks a good game doesn't mean that's what you'll experience. In many positions there is no exposure to other groups, and hence no opportunity to advance.
