Not Enough Hours or Pay

Pros

Chill, laid back coworkers and dress code.

Cons

Not enough hours at all. I started working at Dollar Tree about a month ago and have been given little to no hours. There was a problem with my schedule Immediately when I was hired to where I was left off the schedule for a week and a half without work. My current schedule is basically only working for 4-5 hour shifts 3 days a week, 12-15 hours a week with 6 days off in a row. That’s basically nothing. On top of that, if you’re going to work here be prepared to be the only cashier in the store most times. While you are the only cashier, they still expect you to stock shelves and it can get really busy sometimes for only one person. It’s also a lot of back-and-forth because just when you think you may have enough time to go put a couple boxes on the shelf, a customer shows up and you have to walk back to the register to cash them out. You need a manager for just about everything and half the time they’re nowhere to be found and you have to constantly keep calling them to the front and making customers wait. I’d only recommend this job if you want a small part time job for extra money, if you’re in school, or for a first time job for some experience.

Pros

Working retail isn't very different from one major retailer to another - job wise - but your managers can make all the difference! I have a great SM, ASM & Merch Manager so I really like my job at Dollar Tree. I have to assume not everyone feels the same way about their management team but I would recommend giving Dollar Tree a shot to find out!

Cons

The starting pay where I'm at is $12/hr. This seems a bit low to me. Also, you could end up getting anywhere from 5 to 30 hours a week, depending on the stores needs. It's hard to make a living off of 10-15 hours a week average.
