Lots of hours when I started, Work was focused instead of trying to make you accomplish all things within one four hour shift. Managers were nice and supportive and worked alongside you as opposed to above you (The way it should be). When given between 5-8 hours we could accomplish almost all the tasks of unpacking boxes and stocking.

Cons

From the start there were employees who spoke to management about their preferences as to where they want to be working. Some wanted to work in the Warehouse, stocking, receiving etc. and some wanted to stick to being a Cashier. For some reason, no ones preferences were taken into consideration. This caused a mass exodus of some honest hard-working people. If the people at the top of the food chain had given us more hours (At least 25 a week) and kept us doing one job instead of 4 different jobs per shift, it would have made for a neat organized store as well as high customer and employee satisfaction. Picking favourites is another problem. When me and an employee started out at the same pay grade and position, and worked equally as hard, guess what happens? One of us gets promoted to Assistant Manager and one gets their hours cut. Why? Why do I get my hours cut and no promotion? Oh and when the other employee gets promoted, I don't find out from management, I find out from rumours spreading amongst other employees. What a joke. Furthermore, when Management told us "Don't worry we're just training you on Cash/Stocking so everyone can have a feel for things." We took it as we would only be on our less desired position for a shift or two, just until we got the hang of things. Instead, the majority of our shifts were working our less desired position. Why? When an employee specifically told me that they prefer being on Cash and I told them I preferred Stocking, why are they miserably stocking and I am miserably working on Cash? This issue was brought up to management multiple times, and they would not budge on the matter. How can I be expected to perform to my fullest when I am placed in a position I don't want to be in? If I clearly perform better as a stocker why am I now on Cash and continuously being reminded of my poor performance on Cash? Here's a thought, if you and I can clearly see that I'm doing better stocking and warehousing and am much happier in that position, then keep me in that position. Same goes for employees who like being on Cash and helping customers. If someone is an extrovert and gains energy from customers then let them do that job. When someone is introverted and loses copious amounts of energy from customers, why put them in that position? If there is nothing to pull from it but low work ethic and high stress levels. Everyone is different, and I thought Dollar Tree management knew that, especially when they seemed thoughtful and considerate as well as supportive at the start. But it was all a facade, just as many other Retail establishments in Canada. They don't care about the employee, all they care about is saving money. Put pressure on an employee to complete multiple tasks within two 4 hour shifts and then when you ask for help the management makes you feel like a complete fool and as if your employment is on the line. And then when we're putting back things and a manager tells me "If you can't find where it goes, put it wherever." I have to take the blame. Which way is right?Don't tell me a job's a job when I have 8 hours a week at minimum wage. $80 isn't worth it for this nonsense. I have enough anxiety going in knowing that I'm gonna be put on Cash and pestered the entire shift. But then to be taken aside and yelled at by management for not completing my tasks to their liking? Social anxiety isn't a joke and it's hard enough to deal with it on my own, you'd think an employer would take such things into consideration. Everything is a joke to them and they just need another reason to get mad at someone/fire them. I'm done with the retail world. Don't expect me to sit there and listen to this garbage for minimum wage, wasting my whole day to go in at 5 PM for 4 hours. You think $40 is worth it? Go ahead and apply.
