Pros

It was a demanding place to work in terms of hours - I would often work 50-60 hours a week but it was a good atmosphere and a "all in it together" culture - nobody left early. Our manager was great - although giving the impression of being a bit all over the place he was the go-to person in the building. It's over 2 years since I left the hotel and although many of the faces have changed the ones that remain still stop to say hello and ask how I'm getting on if I visit. They were very interested in development and training - I learnt a lot and the experience was invaluable to me. I still miss the team and keep in touch with many of them. The "CARE" philosophy was strong in the location I worked in and our team even won £500 in a hotel-wide competition to demonstrate a value.

Cons

On a personal note I worked 1 hour away so the travelling was tough, especially in winter. It was difficult to secure promotion which is why I moved on in the end. Our entire department were deemed as "casual" staff which meant that we weren't entitled to any of the lucrative Hilton benefits and although working for over a year (and being replaced by one) was never able to secure a permanent contract, even with part time hours (although I was generally working minimum 40).

Pros

Throughout my time at DoubleTree I can say that I was given chances to progress and build with a few managers that I could go to with queries. I also had a great team which I was able to nurture. Gavin the operations manager of the Aberdeen branch is the only member of senior management to show an interest in staff and give opportunities to develop through coaching.

Cons

The hotel was lacking a lot of training for all staff and many were left feeling like they weren't getting anywhere. There was very little support from upper management levels and little direction, many managers were over bearing whilst other distant. Although given the chance to nurture the team I was given no support to role out new schemes. Some management don't really care about fair treatment of employees and they were left feeling discontent. Poorly staffed.
