Pros

Competition is lacking as the margins in the business are weak - no threat of new entrants and competitors are not very strong. Sadly, if a real leadership team was put in place that was focused on fixing the fundamental issues of the business, the place could be a good place to work.

Cons

No clear management vision. No real decision making processes or design control. Only real change agents left the business or were sent to Iowa. Conyers (Atlanta) central leadership is constantly infighting and adds no value, only conflicting directions. Of the five Dover (parent company) values, HP Colonial Heights is 0 for 5. No real plan to improve financial performance beyond facility closures and poorly executed layoffs. Literally fight day-to-day / month-to-month chasing the financial flash that is established with no grounding in reality.

An absolute mess

Pros

Good pay mostly because of my recruiters

Cons

Division leader is absolutely horrible to work with. A lot of expectations with no industry or product training. Expect to drop a big project to complete something in 2 hours then expect to be asked why you didn’t complete your first task.

Great product, outdated company

Pros

If you like being status quo, you can work here forever. The product that is made here will be around as long as there are supermarkets and need to keep food cold. Overall, salaries are average to below market. Conservative in culture/politics (Fox News is always on lobby TV) and business (will not make major moves. Only executive and upper management salaries are above average, with good bonuses.

Cons

Very little opportunities in career advancement. Very little effort is made to grow an employee. Employee morale is generally low. There are no company sponsored employee events (no holiday parties, no employee awards, etc.) There is a big distinction of who directors and above are versus everyone else: Separate parking area, off-site meetings and separate offices are a few obvious "perks" for management. Employee parking is always an issue. Human Resources seems to be non-existent and makes no attempt to help employees become better.
