Good and bad

Pros

It's been around a long time, and stable for the most part. The pay is decent.

Cons

The benefits were once great, but they keep chipping away. A lot of uncertainty with spinoffs and downsizing and a total change in the direction of the company. Also, the reasons for promoting or not promoting are a bit baffling. There are golden boys/girls who get the best opportunities. Also a lot of inefficiency, dead wood and people doing very little work, while others are working their butts off.

Pros

Decent salary (not the best). Decent benefits. Good work-life balance (if you play the politics, you survive without doing anything).

Cons

Too many bosses, but too little work. Some managers only have 2-3 direct reports (we need more workers, not bosses. It is not acceptable for a company of this size to have managers with so few reports and these managers do nothing but take credits from their direct reports). With frequent restructuring I had a new boss every 18-24 months. Managers don't know what they are doing, they play the favorite and some people survive without doing anything, whereas people who work hard are not rewarded. If people a few ranks above the managers abuse you, they remained quiet (simply don't care about you) and only care about their progression. Promotional opportunities are scare and due to the company dissolving, it is hard to move to other parts of the company without taking a lot of risks. Job stability is non-existent. Management cannot be trusted; some people who they don't like were simply fired for no reason. With certain people not liking each others, I have seen some people were sent to HR for their bad behaviors. Little professionalism/respect is shown to less senior employees. Too much politics make work slow and nothing could get done easily. Some people are elitist and still think DuPont is still the best, but you have to keep in mind that the best days of the company were long gone. The company is shrinking month by month, and eventually it would be the end of this 200-year-old company. They are also going to sell this division (Clean Technologies) to others, so many more layoffs are coming. Once I got a better job, I was advised by certain senior people to take it.
