Pros

Minimum wage plus tips, friendly customers, uplifting environment, customer-service oriented

Cons

Employees can be cliquey, have to keep a conversation, fast-paced, can get in trouble if you aren't talkative (ie. you are encouraged to strike a conversation with customers even when they do not want to talk to you) I had one experience where there was a significant lull in the conversation with a customer waiting at the drive-thru window (I asked a couple of questions and there was a few one-word answers)- So I just waited patiently for the drinks and didn't force any more conversation. After I handed out the drinks, the shift lead asked me why I didn't talk to the customers more often. This was also right in front of a few other employees. I explained that no one should force conversation. She then proceeds to interject on the next few customers and talks over me (she comes in between me on the drive window). I found this very unprofessional and embarrassing. Just let people be- I have days where I don't want to talk to anyone. Each stand has a different "vibe" and they hire accordingly. It's based on personality for the most part. It seems beneficial but it leads to acts of favoritism from management.

Pros

Free coffee, tips, and coffee knowledge.

Cons

Work with high schoolers, horrible pay, working in all the outside elements, bullying, bad business values (reusing customer cups by tossing them in sanitizing solution and then using it for another customer. Been told they still do this even during COVID). I was 22 at the time and had been manager of a Starbucks and was getting my bachelors degree, yet I was treated like I was the lowest on the totem pole and bullied by 16 year olds! What?! The audacity and I was respectful no matter what, but it made my job miserable being with them and knowing I could essentially run the place better, but they have an extreme hierarchy system you have to follow in order to become a part of management (have to work at least 3 years and become a supervisor, then another year to become an assistant manager, and then another year and lots of training to become a manager) and there was no way I would stay that long just to become a manager there. It was the worst 8 months of my life.
