Working as a Software QA Manager at EAB

Pros

Working at EAB as a Software QA Manager, I find some good reasons to consider this place. Firstly, the team environment is supportive, people here usually help each other to fix issues and share knowledge. This makes daily tasks easier and helps in personal growth. Also, EAB focuses a lot on using new technologies which is great for keeping skills up-to-date. The management is okay, they listen to concerns but sometimes decisions take time which can be a bit frustrating. Another positive is the flexibility in work hours, which is very helpful if you need to balance work with personal life. However, the work can be quite demanding and sometimes the pressure is high, but this is expected in our field. Overall, if you are looking for a place where you can grow and you are ready to handle some challenges, EAB might be a good option. They have good parts and parts that could be better, but it's worth considering depending on what you are looking for in your career path.

Cons

While management is generally supportive, their response to issues can sometimes be slow, which can be frustrating when trying to address urgent problems. There is also room for improvement in terms of career advancement opportunities, as the path to progression is not always clear and can seem limited for those looking to move up within the company.

Pros

- great coworkers; everyone is lovely to work with and passionate about the higher education industry - lots of opportunities for cross-departmental collaboration - PTO and other benefits are excellent

Cons

- at the start of 2024, EAB announced it was now matching $0.50 for every dollar contributed up to 4% into employee 401Ks. Prior to 2024, EAB was matching dollar for dollar up to 7%. Slashing employees' hard-earned retirement savings is absolutely cruel... LET THAT SINK IN, PEOPLE! - Oh, and not to mention there is ZERO flexibility in negotiating your salary. After 3 years of employment I still had no promotion or raise. I asked about the possibility of renegotiating my salary simply to meet the rise of inflation and was told verbatim "if you want more money, go find another job." - managers claim to be "approachable" but often fail to advocate for their direct reports which results in lack of promotional opportunities. - there is a clear culture of favoritism in this company. Only those who "know the right people" have any shot at moving up and getting raises. Many newer employees are regarded as outsiders
