Good way to make money fast but get burnt out fast.

Pros

You can make a lot of money fast if you're willing to sacrifice time elsewhere.

Cons

Required certifications need to be completed within a strict time frame. Failure to do so results in pay cut then loss of job. Getting your certs in is not on the priority list of management until you are running down to your last few days. Also be prepared to dedicate more time to work than spending it at home. If you're single this is the best job to make money fast, otherwise be prepared to have your relationship suffer. Currently working 60-70hr weeks; 14-18hr days.

Pros

Good location, most people are nice to work with, benefits aren't bad--minus pay

Cons

Low pay, long hours, very little employee recognition, not family oriented at all, management is not able to figure out how to fix losses other then firings and/or pay cuts for non essential employees rather then management, always low morale, stingy with money if it relates to employees needs or anything that might benefit someone other then management,

Pros

1. Supportive team environment Team members are generally collaborative and willing to help, especially for those who are still learning. 2. Strong field exposure Provides hands-on experience with inspections, concrete, and soil testing, which is valuable early in a career. 3. Continuous technical learning Good opportunity to become familiar with ASTM standards, procedures, and real-world reporting. 4. Job stability There is usually a steady flow of projects, which offers a sense of security. 5. Internal growth opportunities There is potential to move up into roles such as Senior Technician over time.

Cons

1. Physically demanding work The job can be challenging due to weather conditions, long hours, and fieldwork. 2. Variable schedule Work hours may change depending on project needs, including early mornings or late days. 3. Administrative workload Reporting can be repetitive and time-consuming at times. 4. Limited engineering-focused growth The role may be more inspection-based rather than design-oriented. 5. Compensation vs. effort In some cases, the pay may not fully reflect the level of physical and logistical effort required.
