Don't Believe the Hype

Pros

One of the best experiences was to encounter a very diversified group of people. There's a warm friendly attitude among employees who are very intelligent.

Cons

Management is horrible on the EA team in Dallas. The job description is deceptive. You are not an EA but in fact a call center. You don't get the experience of being empowered in your career. Management puts restraints on you and discourages promotion outside of your current role. Management style of this group is micromanaging. They are very non-personable. In my honest opinion I regret the decision to work there as an EA. This group has a high turn over rate because you feel devalued in this role. If you are looking for a more traditional style EA role where you have decision-making, empowerment, growth, and team involvement don't work here.

Not a good place for experienced hires

Pros

Offer flexible schedule, so you can work from home or take time off to run some personal errands. Offer excellent annual training for each different level. Very laid back environment compared to other big four accounting firms. You can easily find employees who are not meeting the firm's expectation.

Cons

EY is not a friendly place for experienced hires. The firm is not so welcoming and you are pretty much on your own to survive. Long term employees are very cohesive and do not welcome new comers. They can ignore you right in front of your face. The firm is not organized as a whole, and things can fall through cracks pretty easily. No job specific training was provided and new experienced hire training was provided four months after I was hired. Experienced hires will get low budget but demanding projects nobody wants. The year end review is not based on your performance. It's not about how well you performed but it's all about who you know. You are asked to perform one level up without additional compensation. It's almost like they do not want to promote you but expect you to work harder. The firm has groups such as DSG, GCR, BST and PCS. It doesn't mean anything. There is no special group. You just get assigned to whatever. If you want to focus on one specific area, you are out of luck.

Pros

There are no pros. People are backstabbing and manipulative, and the hours are horrific.

Cons

Everything about it. If you go to a job here, kiss your personal life goodbye. Managers are horrendously inept, and are quick to throw anybody under the bus when they screw up. If a Senior or Manager feels threatened by you, expect a crappy review because they will do anything to impede your advancement. Busy season averaged 85 hours a week, and I was disciplined for leaving at 2 AM, which apparently was "too early" to go home. I was also disciplined for taking a lunch break. I'm glad I worked here for the sole reason of knowing what kind of environment I don't want to work in.
