Pros

Good option for those looking to make a break into management/tech consulting. When staffed, preferably on an assignment that requires travel, you will be afforded an opportunity to work with others outside of your local office network and be able to gain client-facing experience, develop core consulting skills, and work on interesting work.

Cons

Lack of projects, low pay, mundane center-based work, internal “budget" cuts/constraints, non-existent work culture, low pay, career mobility, and low pay were huge detrimental factors. Everyone is either simply existing, slowly fading out, or complaining due to the aforementioned reasons. Some counselors do not even bother to take advantage of their "use it or lose it" activity budget. If you’re willing to accept these terms in hope of furthering a career in consulting, I’d recommend to stay for 1-1.5 but absolutely no more than 2 years.

Pros

None, other than having the benefit of putting on your resume that you worked at one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms.

Cons

- I will start off by saying that the corporate environment general is not inherently built for African American people to succeed - which is why we struggle with certain aspects of corporate life (i.e. "playing politics, etc.)". - The racism in the NY Real Estate Tax department was not overt but very much covert in my opinion. In addition, the majority of African American people that were in the department are GONE and I'm sure there's a reason for this. - The NY Real Estate Tax department is very demanding and they place very high expectations on individuals in general in addition to providing very poor on the job training and guidance overall. - As mentioned in my headline, if you are an African American person and are thinking of joining the Real Estate Tax department, I highly suggest looking elsewhere - you will be poorly trained (unless you demand it), thrown under the bus, most likely talked about in secret, and moved from client to client and there will be nothing you can do about it because of EY's awful reporting structure (for example, there's really nothing you can do if your Senior or Manager dislikes you and reports nothing but falsities to the Senior Managers or Partner). - HR does not care so you will have no one in your corner. - Work/life balance is a joke. - There are a few decent/good people in the New York Real Estate Tax Department. Seek them out and perhaps your experience will be different.

Pros

Some smart people. But far too much emphasis on pointless powerpoints

Cons

I had  in quick succession  a) A project where I was assigned to one manager who was bouncing up against the limits of her talent (she had been trying unsuccessfully to get promoted to Senior Manager for several years, and hadn't gotten the hint). She was (correctly)  widely viewed as incompetent by her peers, and got completely unable to recognize that the tasks required more skills than the ability to make slide decks. The project failed. b) One technical project where the manager, was asked to make a technical decision between two mutually exclusive options (think Linux vs Windows) they wanted to do both rather than ask the client what they wanted. When advised doing both was not possible, she said "We  need to bring solutions not problems" and looked at us like she had said something insightful vs showing her complete misunderstanding of the problem. She removed people from the project when challenged, and I was subsequently told that the removal stopped my getting promoted that year.
