      Pros

      Fantastically helpful and competent colleagues. Lots of opportunities, especially if you like to travel. Good onboarding and development for young engineers in some organizations. Reasonable work hours in my current organization. Specific to Kingsport, TN: beautiful natural surroundings, lots of outdoor activities available, friendly neighbors, good schools, sensible government, low cost of living, Fun Fest (look it up).

      Cons

      The engineering organization is transforming to be more focused on large capital projects. We're not sure what's going to happen to day-to-day plant support for this 100-year-old facility. Depending what happens, I may look elsewhere even though this has previously been a great place to work.

      Flexible schedule work/life balance Direct management trusts you to do your job Great operators to work with Colleagues in other departments always willing to help

      Promotions based on behaviors not results Looked at differently if hired from external company Micromanagement from several levels up Seems like layoffs almost every year Constant new initiatives causing alot of red tape to do your job, increased workload for mindless tasks, little to no benefit seen, most of the time initiatives rolled out hastily with no plan Technology becoming more distant than manufacturing
