Pros

The people you work with

Cons

Ecolab will take advantage of you. Full stop. They'll promise you bigger titles, better pay, new equipment, etc. but they will never, ever follow through with it. The company has complete disregard for their employee's well-being and aren't afraid to show you how much contempt they have for you

Pros

Autonomy to handle your business and control your work life balance. Unrivaled SME technical support. Great perks in addition to the base salary (Car, insurance, gas, company card).

Cons

Not the company I hired in to. Nalco’s culture was much stronger and there was a greater sense of camaraderie amongst colleagues. Ecolab is very hierarchical and there is a diminishing focus on the importance of its employees. Doug Baker is and forever will be a great leader but I don’t have confidence that senior leadership will follow though with his vision.

Pros

Free coffee, cheap breakfast on site.

Cons

Zero career growth in department while seeing others hire engineer after engineer. RD&E has policy to promote/move people after 2-3 years, QC is impossible to even progress to lab tech 2 or 3 equivalent, let alone chemist. I've been told I interviewed for Chemist positions "flawlessly" only to not get the job and have it be handed to a contingent lab tech they didn't want to lose. Or an intern they had a few years prior. Moving between buildings (Saint Paul, EEC, ESC) is insanely difficult. No matter what extra experience you gain in your current role it will never be enough in the new manager's eyes, as they'll want to pick someone they already know with less overall experience instead. I've also had senior leadership at my location say that people in my position "could just be found on the street" so I was easily replaceable. We'll have to see how that goes. HR also is fully of empty promises and platitudes. It's fine though, that's why they rotate up and or out every 2-3 years or so.
