Pros

When I first started 20 years ago it was a great company to work for.

Cons

The internal culture has changed at Ecolab. No longer a family based company. Has grown into a company where the number of employees you hurt gets you a raise or a better position.

Pros

You get a car and some gas

Cons

When hired, you are told you are a salesperson, you become a Service person working on dirty dish machines, you must know how to wipe, 110,220,480 volts, and troubleshoot electrical problems, Plumbing skills are also a must, your suits and ties will get filthy, when you are laying on the ground under a dirty greasy dish machine, you will have to take care of 8-10 exsisting accounts a day, try to sell new business also, and Cover trouble calls at other restaurants, which may be an hour away, if you sell a new account, you are expected to install it, without much help as they got rid of the Servicemen in 09, so now you spend at least a half a day installing your new account, which takes time away from your 8-10 accounts, and sales calls, now remember you are on Call 365/7/24, so when your at your kids game, or your daughters birth, or your Dads funeral, you have to go take care of Ecolab customers, and you get no extra pay or OT pay, and when on Vacation, you must get someone to cover your Calls, and you must cover theirs, also any open territory’s you must cover all calls at No extra pay, if you read other reviews, they all relate to the same things, management is horrible, you have no personal life, and it’s getting worse, also HUGE turn over, I worked 20 years, and finally left for a less stressful job, and a happy wife, If you do take the job, you will be gung ho for a month or 2, then the reality of working 24/7 set in, and if your female, watch out it’s the Good Ole Boys will be Boys Network.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

Pros

The ability to "make your own schedule" company car Plenty of time off (when your allowed to use it)

Cons

When making "your own schedule" there are VERY VERY VERY strict parameters that you have to make them in, which leaves you barely any room to actually set it the way you want it. You have both the least amount of communication possible and more "super important" emails and conference calls than the President of the US I took the territory that I was assigned from the worst in the district to the best in sales in the first full quarter that I had the position, and not just first, but so far beyond the closest rep behind me it was almost embarrassing for him, but no matter what, you will NEVER get any kind of gratitude. All I ever hear is how bad our district is compared to others in the country and how no matter how hard we all work, we somehow have to get even more in during the same work day but arent even allowed to think about getting OT. FORGET ABOUT PROMOTIONS!!! the only way to get promoted is if one of two things happen... Your DM gets promoted OR you are willing to move hundreds if not Thousands of miles away to stay with a company that doesnt appreciate you in the slightest anyway. This position is beyond tedious... its just plain hard. You are pulled 10 different ways at once everyday, and they make it hard to get everything done each month as it is, but to make things worse, your manager will let you know in a hurry that if you miss a single store or visit in a month then they will ABSOLUTELY fire you. I was brought to Ecolab from another company with the promises of being home with my family more that I was with my old company and with a higher pay. When I was hired and finished my training, I found out that not only will I have signifigantly less time with my wife and son, but I would also have several overnight trips per month, and as far as the pay goes, my pay increased by $500 whopping dollars PER YEAR! Typically you will have a couple days in the month that are wide open, this leaves you time to drive all over gods green earth to fix "Extra Service Requests" for your customers that are inevitably going to happen. We call these ESR's. When you get an ESR, you are expected to be able to completely change your schedule and be at the store to fix their issue within 24-48 hours, and that doesnt seem like its too bad until you realize that you have to drive 2-3 hours to get to the store where the issue is and there arent any other stores that you can walk to make a full day out of an ESR. With this I feel as if I should inform you of the way your time card works... Your day doesnt start until you are actually at your first visit and it ends once you leave you last visit. This means that counting ddrive time to and from most of my stores, I am sometimes on the road to my first store at 4am just to get there in time, this ends my day around 4pm but then I still have the 3 hour drive back home All this company is doing, is working all of their employees into the ground and making them squeeze every last penny out of their customers. They WILL PROMISE YOU THE WORLD... but their words are deceptive. THIS JOB IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME I CANT GET AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY FAST ENOUGH!!!
