Where careers go to die

Pros

Free snacks in the lunchroom. That's about it. There are some good people working there now, but not good enough to make staying worthwhile.

Cons

Terrible leadership, no coherent vision or strategy for the future. Pursuing products and services the market doesn't even want. Throwing good money after bad at a breakneck pace. Old boys club culture that plays favorites. Don't trust anyone - morale is low, blood is in the water, and they will step all over you to save themselves. The recent acquisition may very well be the downfall of the entire company. Convinced it was a terrible strategic mistake of colossal proportions. Avoid this toxic environment.

Pros

Second to none PTO plan, decent benefits, and some great people are still left.

Cons

Major game playing. You will only be promoted if you know the right person, play the right game, and kiss the right butt. They talk the talk, but don't walk it Since Mutual Fund Store was acquired by Financial Engines - it has really been a mess. No structured integration, former Mutual Fund Store employees getting blatantly screwed on salary and bonus, and leadership is not leading. You cannot pay folks 30% more and triple the bonus for the same position in another location! It is back biting, competitive, and the only way to be promoted or grow is to be "in" with a very small, select group. I cannot advise enough against this company.

Pros

Fun parties for employees a few times a year. Good coworkers. Perks include: free gym or reimbursement, free parking, flu shots, wellness events.

Cons

Very poor communication between departments and between management and staff. Not a lot of transparency.
