Pros

Solid group of very client focused advisors, planners, and managers. Network of branch offices means long term career advancement opportunities for planners. Very inclusive of race and gender nothing to worry about. Management opportunities for non-planner minded people too. Small RIA feel. Your ideas are always heard and wanted. I have worked for some of the majors in Phoenix; if you want to be a financial planner, EFE is absolutely an excellent choice. If you want flashy red and green lights and the excitement of a trade floor, you go up the street, and you work under a compliance microscope. EFE is doing planning the right way; deep conversations, client goals are the focus, no product pushing or quotas, and planning tools are well beyond others essentially because Ric Edelman pioneered so much of the modern planning process. Huge growth is expected over the next few years which means a lot of opportunities.

Cons

1. Vax mandate, which led to two local director walk outs and many others. 2. With H&F ownership there is no stake in the game for employees and the 401k match is lower than any of the major corporations EFE supports, which is leading to a problem attracting talent IMO. 3. We all know that an AZ call center job in financial services is relatively low pay and that's why many of the big financials have call centers here. You've got to move up to make big bucks (but moving up is actually possible here so that's a big WIN, and I think a new career entrant will make more at EFE than local competitors)

Pros

Relatively good work/life balance. Good benefits.

Cons

Financial Engines, now Edelman Financial Engines, is a soulless company only focused on Sales, not on customer or product. Individuals eat lunch at their desks, which has always been one of my key indicators of culture. They focus on "operational efficiency" with no willingness or ability to effect a cohesive product strategy or vision.
