Undervalued and Underpaid

Pros

Access to resources and international network

Cons

I worked in one of the China offices and was vastly underpaid. I agreed to the position because I wanted the experience, and I did gain a lot of valuable experience and contribute a lot to the team. But after proving myself, I was still denied a promotion and during yearly reviews received only a very small raise. My team's management was a mess and there were a lot of negative attitudes. This is not representative of the entire company, and I've heard that since I left things have gotten much better for my team as well.

Pros

Global agency with good international opportunities; entrepreneurial spirit = if you come with good ideas and the business case you can create it (they love new products clients will buy up); get to work with some of the largest, most influential organizations in the world.

Cons

Very P&L-driven, to a fault. It's not ALL about growth. Culture is dependent on local leaders and local teams to carry. They let people go fairly often (particularly VP and up) which hurts morale and adds to high turn-over fatigue in teams and for clients.

I can't help but agree with you on your entrepreneurial observations. It's so true that employees often find themselves in the position of leading a project that they came up with and pitched themselves. I truly believe the opportunities are endless here. Thank you for your feedback on our culture and how we're organized, as well. It's helpful to hear employees' input and observations on these topics. Maria O'Keeffe, Executive Director, US HR
