Pros

I love working at Edelman. Despite what I had heard about traditional PR firms (particularly those the size of Edelman), the company has a collaborative work culture. You are encouraged to ask for what you want and voice your opinion, no matter what level you are. Perks also include insanely smart colleagues, transparent business practices and the fact that it is privately owned.

Cons

For the amount of work expected of the junior staff, starting salaries are very low. Work life balance isn't the best, but I have met people from PR firms with much worse balance. I think it's really a hallmark of the job (and the high-profile clients that come along with it) and less a reflection of the company.

Pros

I value Edelman's independence as an agency, its diverse practices and its global footprint. The LA office is very diverse and offers a great location for commuting from most locations in SoCal. I believe there is good opportunity for professional growth within the LA office.

Cons

Because of its size, it does take time to navigate within the agency. Edelman offers so many practice groups and services that it requires time to fully understand how to integrate them in your day to day operations.

Pros

The Edelman team, from Richard himself to each Assistant Account Executive, are simply the smartest group of professionals I've worked with in this industry. Having worked at two other large agencies, I can confidently say the level of talent at Edelman blows other agencies away. Senior management is incredibly involved and accessible and although it's a huge company, it somehow maintains a small, start-up feel. I think that's because they strongly encourage an agency-wide "entrepreneurial spirit," which empowers teams to pursue boundary-pushing programs for clients and employees to pursue limitless opportunities in their career path.

Cons

If you don't have a strong POV, presence or outgoing personality, it's easy to get swallowed up at Edelman. Although it feels smaller, it's a huge, global agency at the end of the day and it truly gives life to the phrase "jump in the deep end and sink or swim."
