Pros

Large company names look great on resumes. Once you get your foot in the door you can transfer to other offices/cities. If you get the rare chance to work with other offices (new york/chicago/atlanta), you can learn a lot. Severance packages tend to be generous (or so we've heard).

Cons

Culture is driven by fear. Local management has zero agency management experience. Turnover of respected and talented employees is extremely high. Agency brand recognition is low in the market. All the free coffee and soda (or meal replacement shakes....) in the world can't make up for a hostile work environment.

Toxic Work Enviroment

Pros

• Talented people • The agency is doing ntegrated Communications

Cons

• Toxic work culture • Highly competitive environment but even to the point where offices are actively fighting each other for revenue, which upper management seems to like. • But most concerning to me was how I saw men being treated differently than women in the workplace and the highly inappropriate behavior I saw of senior men at Edelman and their relationships with women at various levels. One even bragged that HR keeps asking him to stop having inappropriate relationships with junior staff but he has an addiction similar to his surfing addiction. Unfortunately, HR isn't really empowered to take the necessary action one would hope to see in today's workplace so this only continues. It's shocking that Edelman didn't get caught up in the #MeToo movement.

Pros

- work on amazing accounts - learn a ton

Cons

- extreme gender pay gap for junior employees in the SF office. When confronted, senior management and HR admitted they knew about the pay differences for junior men and women, but they said there was nothing they could do about it. - no consequences for reported sexual misconduct by an SVP - like any business that runs on billable hours, junior employees are worked to the bone as soon as they are no longer eligible to receive overtime pay. - racist hiring, firing, and promotion practices. not a welcoming environment for people of color.
